Bible Study Tips
In his book, “How to Apply the Bible”, Dave Veerman creates a pyramid template to go by when reading the Bible. This is so helpful for personal study time, leading a small group, and even for preparing sermons. Everyone can benefit from this tool.
Imagine going up the left side of a pyramid in steps. The steps are people, place, plot, and point. These provide the reader with context of the passage. At the top step of the pyramid is the word principles. These are timeless truths that are discovered after working through the previous steps. Then, as one proceeds down the right steps of the pyramid, you find the words present, parallels, priorities, and plan. Here is where the Lord guides the reader into applying the learned principles into daily experiences and existence. This material is found on page 39 and following in Veerman's book. There are great examples of actually going through a passage of Scripture and using this method.
